Vodafone Global CEO Vittorio Colao in a recent meeting with the India team urged them not to lose any customers since competition is rising. Likely he asked all employees to work hard and attract new customers. Two people aware of this situation have told ET. Recently launched Reliance Jio first shook Airtel, now makes Vodafone CEO to have a meeting with India team. Jio as an introductory offer is giving free Voice and 4G data till 31st December to its entire customer base. This move was taken to reach their goal of 100 million customers. The British Telecom Vodafone on the other hand gets 12% revenue from India and tells that this market is their most strategic and important. The Telecom Service Provider (TSP) is increasing 4G coverage from 9 to 17 circles by buying 283 Mhz of bandwidth for Rs 20,280 crore. This move was taken since its competitors Airtel, Idea and Jio have already launched 4G services in pan India. CEO Colao has not given any statement that specifies that they are referring to Jio as a threat. But it is very obvious that Vadofone India means Reliance Jio as their biggest threat.
