The taxi-hailing company Uber is soon going to launch its food delivery product UberEats in India. As there is rapid growth in market for food online services, Uber is ready to join the market. The official date is yet to be announced, the user would be able to order the food through restaurants and get delivered to their desired location after downloading the standalone application.
UberEATS was first launched in 2014 as an in-app service for Los Angeles .Since then; it has expanded to 58 cities. The service also exists in major cities around the world like Bangkok, Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei and many more.
Uber is currently looking to setup a restaurant network and join forces with delivery partners before going on air. UberEats will have no connection with the taxi-hailing services. The application will be based on complete new platform, which will deliver food as soon as possible to the customer and will be easy on pockets.
Allen Penn, head of UberEats says “We are incredibly excited about bringing UberEATS to India. This is a significant investment; it will expand to multiple cities and regions and has the potential to change the food industry.”
Food delivery is a competitive space in India. Ola, which is Indian rival for Uber, had started an in-app food delivery service named Ola Café back in April 2015. They got shut down a year ago due to tough competition. It will be interesting to see how Uber will perform in this heavy competition which is already flooded by many food delivery services.
