Ronnie Screwvala UpGrad acquires Pyoopil

News on UpGrad: Ronnie Screwvala UpGrad, the online educational service provider for corporates, founded by Ronnie Screwvala, has acquired Pyoopil Education Technologies, a mobile-based SaaS (Software-as-a-service) product used by companies to conduct online training programmes. Nowadays, many corporates have to spend on non-learning expenses like traveling and lodging for their employees. UpGrad along with Pyoopil, aims to help corporates cut down on these costs and help them focus their spending on the core learning requirements of their employees.

History and recent developments: Delhi-based Pyoopil, was founded three years ago and has developed a learning app which has elements of peer engagement and mentorship. The company had also raised an undisclosed amount of funding in the form of investments from Angel investors. “We have been in touch with UpGrad for some time now and given our shared drive and values on how we were approaching online education, we decided it would be best to join hands and do this together,” said Harsh Tripathi, CEO of Pyoopil. This acquisition will help UpGrad to better address the growing Business to Business education needs along with its existing core business of Business to Customer education program. UpGrad will now offer customized education programs to corporate clients in emerging fields such as data analytics, product management and digital marketing among others. Along with up-skilling its employees, UpGrad is also looking to train youngsters in modern-day technologies before they join the company.

Case studies: UpGrad has partnered with giants like Cognizant, Genpact, Gramener, Star TV, Disney, Uber, Google, Microsoft and BookMyShow among others to do a case study on each of the companies on the amount of money spent by the company on corporate education and training versus non-learning expenses like traveling and lodging for its employees. It has also tied up with micro, small and medium scale industries for the same purpose.
