Not the best day for the third largest telecom service provider of India, Reliance Communications. Vinod Sawhny, Reliance Communications CEO resigns from his post based on personal grounds. He and his family will be moving to New Delhi. His 2 years journey as CEO ended on September 30th. This news is confirmed as per the company’s BSE filing report.
“…we wish to inform you that the company has accepted request of Vinod Sawhny to step down as chief executive officer of the company with effect from September 30…”
Vinod Sawhny was in a leader position of Bharti group before joining this Telecom. The telecom operator recently merged with competitors Aircel and MTS to form the 3rd largest telecom service provider beating IDEA and behind Airtel and Vodafone. Big brother Mukesh Ambani’s RJio is busy disrupting the industry with their low cost LTE services, while younger brother’s telecom company is looking for a new CEO.
William (Bill) Barney and Gurdeep Singh, who are already working with Reliance Communications, will act as acting CEOs of the company till a new c-level executive is named. Currently, Bill Barney is the CEO of Reliance’s global enterprise business and Gurdeep Singh is the CEO of wireless business.
In our previous posts we gave a bad review of Reliance Communications and talking about why it might shut down. The CEO stepping down is a good move for this CEO, since he had to captain a probable sinking ship. Read more entrepreneur news.
