Online gaming startup 9Stacks raises funds

9Stacks is a Delhi – based online gaming startup owned and run by SparSkills Technologies Pvt. Ltd. The startup announced yesterday (19/12/2017) that it has raised Rs. 10 crores (US $1.5 million) in seed round of funding from a clutch of angel investors. Read more on Investments

9Stacks was founded in April 2017. The startup allows users to earn/gamble real money by playing its online Poker game. The game can be played either through the startup’s website or through its mobile app, available for download in iOS, Android, MacOS and Windows operating systems/platforms. The startup will use the funds to upgrade its technology platforms (website and mobile app), expand its presence throughout India and abroad and venture into new domains. The startup is also reportedly investing a lot of money into developing tips for its Poker game which will enable users to develop their Poker skills and connect with other Poker players online.

“With the backing of our angel investors, we want to make 9Stacks the first choice for new users to play poker, with the most user-friendly interface, quickest pay-ins and pay-outs through seamless integration with payment gateways or bank accounts, and clear policies on tax deduction for a safe and hassle-free playing experience”, Sudhir Kamath, CEO and co-founder of 9Stacks, said in the statement.

Sudhir Kamath is an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad. Prior to founding 9Stacks, he was the MD of Suntera Energy, an oil and gas exploration company, based in the Delhi-NCR region.

The other gaming startups to get funded this year (2017) include the gaming startup, Nazara Technologies which received an investment of Rs. 180 crores from the famous stock market trader, Rakesh Jhunjhunwala during December, this year. The gaming startup, Mech Mocha, secured US $3.2 million in Series A round of funding from Accel Partners during April, this year. The gaming startup, Indiagames was sold to Walt Disney in 2011 for US $1 Billion! The Udupi – based gaming startup, 99Games, secured an undisclosed amount of seed funding from the Japanese VC firm, Dream Incubator during January, this year (2017). The gaming startup, MadRat, secured US $2.5 million in seed round of funding from Ratan Tata, Bhavish Agarwal and other angel investors during June 2016 just to name a few. Read more on Startup News
