Rs 500 Mobile Recharge scam message on Whatsapp

Numerous people are taking advantage of demonetization. This latest scam message has gone viral on Whatsapp. The message says that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is giving Rs500 towards mobile recharge. Do not fall for this Mobile Recharge scam  and do not give in your details.

December 31st is when our PM gave his new year’s eve speech clearing all doubts that people had about Demonetization. In that speech he said, Rs 6000/- will be given to pregnant women but nowhere did he mention about Rs500 worth mobile recharge. This Whatapp message is being circulated in all active groups and it is meant only to collect details from users. The only details that they are collecting by circulating this message are the mobile numbers. Not very sure to whom these mobile numbers will be useful. The link sent in the message is http://balance.modi-gov.in/ and it is active since last week of December.

This message is being circulated majorly in India, Saudi Arabia and UAE.  According to Alexa analytics, the website has a bounced rate of 33%, with average session time of 2.40. This means people believe this message and the scam is successfully executed. Read more about Indian Startup Scams.
