Itihaasa – History of Indian IT

Itihaasa is a word form Hindu Origin meaning History. History is a very vast discipline when it comes to being explored. Wiki defines history as study of the past, particularly how it relates to humans. All events that are remembered and preserved in some authentic form constitute the historical record.

Kris Gopalakrishnan, Infosys co-founder launched Itihaasa on April 18, 2016 in Bengaluru. Itihaasa is essentially a digital application platform that chronicles the history of Indian IT. It is a digital app that recounts the history of Indian IT since the 1950s. Google Playstore describe it as ranging from remembering the installation of the first modern computer in India sixty years back to chronicling the industry’s spectacular growth to crystal-balling into the IT future.

Their official website quotes that “the success of Indian IT changed the way the world perceived India – from a land of snake charmers to a nation of smart & technology savvy people – and inspired an entire nation. Today, the success of Indian IT is inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.” And this is a very pivotal reason for the world to know what has been in the store of Indian IT since all these years.

Itihaasa is a digital journal, capturing the glimpse of evolution of India as an Information Technology giant. This chronicle came into being with tireless efforts of Kris Gopalakrishnan, Krishnan Narayanan and Dr. N Dayasindhu. They interviewed 44 leading luminaries of Indian IT for Itihaasa. The result was 600 short videos, including over 37 hours of footage, 350 archived photographs and articles. Few eminent personalities featuring in the videos are F.C. Kohli, Prof. Rajaraman, Prof. Mahabala, Narayana Murthy, Azim Premji, S. Ramadorai, Nandan Nilekani, N.Vittal. The categories that encrust these interviews are tagged on six dimensions of Time, People, Organization, Policy, Technical & Other Terms and Place. Itihaasa also offers browsing through 12000 tags.
