Jio (registered in 2007 as Infotel Broadband Services Ltd.-IBSL, and in 2013 it was renamed as Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.- RJIL,a subsidiary of Reliance India Ltd.-RIL). It is an Indian Company operated in more than twenty (i.e., 22) telecommunication circles nationwide on Long Term Evolution Network, such a broadband spectrum as no other company attained in 2010 itself.
In 2016 it launched its 4G services externally offering free data and voice services and has gained more than 100 million subscribers within 6months from the date of launch. Bharti Airtel Ltd., Vodafone India Ltd., Idea Cellular were another operators whose Point of Interconnections got congested with Jio Point of Interconnections and there were issues in Quality of Service and Superior Voice Technology benefits were denied to Indian Customers, hence free voice offer of Jio was not enjoyed by Indian Customers. On 16th October 2016, Shri Mukesh D Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Industries Limited, said “We have expanded our spectrum footprint thereby significantly enhancing capacity of our all-IP data strong network and ensuring world class services for all Indians. Jio is committed to taking India to global digital leadership by bringing the power of data to all Indians.” All Jio customers who purchased the new iPhone received 12 months of Jio Digital Services complimentary with purchase. This offer was available for new iPhone purchases across all Reliance Digital stores and selected Apple Premium Resellers (APR) and Apple Authorized Resellers (AAR) in 2016.
In 2017, JioMoney, the PPI wallet offered by Reliance Payment Solutions Ltd. (a subsidiary of RIL), and Uber announced an agreement that will enable Uber riders to pay for their rides using JioMoney and thereby enhance the digital transaction ecosystem in India.
They have launched the Asia-Africa-Europe (AAE-1) submarine cable system. AAE-1, the longest 100Gbps technology based submarine system. AAE-1 will pass through the critical hubs, serving the increasing demand for video centric data bandwidth supporting all types of communications, applications, and content within India and beyond. In 2018, Jio TV, India’s popular TV app with millions of users, awarded India digital rights of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Olympic Channel, also streams live coverage of the Games in India. Fast Company announced its annual ranking of the world’s 50 Most Innovative Companies (MIC) for 2018, Reliance Jio ranked number 17 in the world and number 1 in India. Along with its technology partner Cisco, Jio has won the “Best Mobile Operator Service for Consumers” award at the prestigious Global Mobile (GloMo) Awards 2018 at Mobile World Congress (MWC). In addition, the company’s JioTV app won in the ‘Best Mobile Video Content’ category for Jio TV enabling Jio Digital Life. It has acquired the exclusive India digital rights for the T20 cricket series Nidahas Trophy. Reliance Jio Launched India’s First VOLTE International Roaming.
In 2019, Launch of the “Kumbh Jio Phone” as a tribute to the world’s largest congregation of pilgrims. Alliance between Jio and Microsoft to enhance the adoption of leading technologies like data analytics, AI, cognitive services, block chain, Internet of Things, and edge computing among small and medium enterprises to make them ready to compete and grow, while helping accelerate technology-led GDP growth in India and driving adoption of next-gen technology solutions at scale. Jio Bot maker tool will democratise AI(Artificial Intelligence) by enabling small businesses to create their own Video Call Assistants
In partnership with Samsung Networks, Jio has built the world’s largest green-field and all IP based 4G LTE network, which supports over 340 million LTE subscribers as of August 2019.

In 2020, Silver Lake, Vista, General Atlantic, KKR, Mubadala, Adia,TPG, L Catterton, PIF, Intel, Qualcomm Ventures, Google, Facebook invested in Jio Platforms. Celebrated “NAYE INDIA KA NAYA JOSH” Jio Fiber announces “No-Condition 30-Day Free Trial” for all new customers. Introduced Jio Postpaid plus. From 1st January 2021,Jio made all off-net domestic voice calls free.
