Upcoming Sport Racing Events

       

Some big events are returning in 2022 that were unable to run in 2021 and 2020. Sports events are big in Australia and the country plays host to many major ones. Here is a list of just some of the sporting events that Australia is hosting in 2022.
Australian motorcycle Grand Prix
Last raced in 2019, this event is normally held annually at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Victoria in October. The first event was held in 1989 at the Eastern Creek Circuit in New South Wales, before being moved to the Phillip Island circuit in 1997. Many famous and successful champions have competed in the race including Valentino Rossi, Max Biaggi, Casey Stoner, Mick Doohan, and Marc Márquez. If you find yourself in Victoria in October and want to experience the races, head on down to Phillip Island.
The Caulfield cup
One of the biggest races in Australia, the Caulfield Cup is run at the Caulfield Racecourse in October every year. It was won by Incentivise in 2021. Going to the  Caulfield races today is an exciting time for everyone involved and it is worth following the winners to get an idea of who is a contender for the main race in November, the Melbourne Cup. The Caulfield Cup was inaugurated in 1879 where it was won by Newminster It is a left-handed 2400-meter weight-for-age race for thoroughbreds and has a total prize purse of $5,000,000AUD.  There have been several double-winning champions including Poseidon, Rising Fast and Ming Dynasty.
Australian PGA championship
This world-class golfing event is played annually in January at the Eagle Farm Golf Course at the RACV Royal Pines Resort in Queensland. Players vie for the Joe Kirkwood Cup and earn a stunning amount of $1,500,000AUD. A par 72 game, it is played over 36 holes with the course spanning 7379 yards and has seen such golfing legends as Robert Allenby, Greg Norman, Peter Senior and Geoff Ogily. Australian Ken Nagle has won the tournament a record six times, with fellow Australian Bill Dunk closely following with 5 championships. 
Formula 1
The Australian Formula 1 is back for 2022 after last being raced in 2019. The race occurs at the Albert Park Lake circuit in Melbourne for the 2022 season, which begins in Bahrain in March. The current date of the Australian Grand Prix is the 7th April to 10th April. More than 300,000 people attend the four-day event and enjoy every minute of it. Watch current champion Max Verstappen vie against the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas for the title. If you are in Melbourne in April and are a motorhead, get to the Albert Park racing circuit.
Rip Curl Pro Bells beach
This event is now into its 60th year and has had many famous and successful surfers compete including the likes of Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Tom Carroll and Courtney Conlogue. The event is held every April at Bells Beach in Victoria and draws thousands of spectators. Winners receive the prestigious Bells Trophy with the most recent champion being American John “John John” Florence who also won the Triple Crown of Surfing in 2020. George “Ming” Smith was the first to win the competition in 1961.
