Shopping for special occasions is a harrowing process for customers, as sellers are often scattered across the city and have limited inventory. At the same time traditional e-retail platforms suffer from poor user experience for made-to-order products. This, combined with his personal experience prompted Mr. Dhar to come up with Glitstreet. Narrating his personal experience Mr Dhar says – “Seeing my sister’s wedding and the amount of running around that she and the family members had to endure – Led me to do more research on the market “.
Speaking of his experience in setting up the platform, he says – “Setting up and scaling are fraught with challenges. The initial stage has the typical chicken and egg problem of supply and demand. Without supply, demand doesn’t come, and without demand, supply is unhappy. Convincing designers that we are a credible platform, before we had any users, was the biggest challenge when starting out. Now our challenge is in attracting customers in a cost-effective manner (without splashing out massive discounts like other e-commerce cos)“. He further adds on his revenue model – “ Currently we operate on a per sale commission model for sellers only, but going forward we are looking at monetizing through premium online selling services like promoted listings, cataloging services and fulfilment services, as well as creating technology solutions for designers and boutiques for inventory and order management. We are also looking at offline appointments and design / styling consultation services “.
