Swedish manufacturing company Volvo headquartered in Gothenburg has asked the Indian R&D team to develop medium duty trucks for global markets. The Volvo India team based out of Bengaluru has more than 800 engineers and this project will be whole and sole handled by the India unit only. The unit can get help from France or Sweden. The production for these trucks is scheduled in 2017.
Managing director of Volvo India, Kamal Bali said that Volvo has entrusted this global responsibility so any truck of 10-15 tons designed by Volvo will only come from India. These trucks will be for global market and might not be suitable for India. Further he says that these trucks would be sold under the brand of Eicher and Volvo if it is premium. Its great news for India unit since Indian designs will be implemented in Swedish automobiles. If more such operations are given to India more engineers would be hired. Read more Business News.
