The Biggest CEOs in the Sports Betting Industry

The sports betting industry is one of the most rapidly growing industries in recent years, largely thanks to the expansion of the internet

At the time of this writing, the worldwide market size of the betting industry has touched 203 billion dollars and is expected to grow further and even more rapidly in the coming 10 years.

As digital transformation takes center stage, online betting companies have become the main driving force of the sports betting industry.

Growing out of relative obscurity 20 years ago, these online betting companies have become multinational corporations with revenues comparable to the likes of British Airways, Starbucks, and Siemens.

Naturally, these huge corporations have the ability to attract some of the greatest talents in the world, which is why some of the world’s foremost CEOs are now working in the online betting industry.

Here’s a look at some of the biggest CEOs that are at the head of this globally expanding industry.

Denise Coates

Denise Coates is the founder and CEO of Bet365, the biggest sports betting company in the world.

Denise founded the company Bet365 out of a mobile building in the year 2000 and launched its website in 2001.

To this day, she remains the CEO of the company and is still the largest shareholder in the company as she owns more than 50% of the company’s shares.

She is one of the highest-paid CEOs in the UK and is counted among the wealthiest female entrepreneurs in the world with a net worth rivaling that of Oprah Winfrey.

Denise Coates is known for her unwavering work ethic and her incredible eye for innovation. When the entire industry was in its early stages, Denise Coates recognized that the internet would be the main driving force of the sports betting industry moving forward.

She took out a loan using her family’s betting shop as collateral and jumped on the opportunity to be on the innovative frontline of the betting business.

Through her leadership and abilities, she managed to grow the company to the incredible popularity it enjoys today.

Maksym Liashko

The popular online sportsbook Parimatch is led by not one but two CEOs.

The fact that Parimatch has two CEOs is symbolic of the company’s highly expansive agenda.

The company is expanding into a new market almost every single month and most recently opened its doors to Parimatch India.

To help them carry out their expansionist policy, they have an executive board that is tightly packed with international talent.

This includes Maksym Liashko who is Co-CEO and a member of Parimatch’s executive supervisory board.

Maksym handles finance, legal affairs, communication, and administrates operating activities.

Maksym’s primary expertise lies in law, media relations, and business consulting. He holds a master’s degree in intellectual property, and these skills make him the perfect CEO for Parimatch as they deal with the legal challenges of setting up shop in new markets.

Anthony Werkman

Anthony Werkman took over the reins as the CEO of Betway in November 2017.

Werkman has worked in the online gaming industry since the year 2000, making his experience equal to that of industry giants like Denise Coates.

He started working for Betway in 2013 where he worked himself up the ranks until eventually taking over the reins as CEO in the year 2017.

Betway’s leadership under Anthony Werkman has been characterized by rapid expansion, especially into markets where other major gaming brands have yet to penetrate. This includes developing markets such as Africa and India.

Anthony Werkmans focus on the developing world can be attributed to the fact that he is from South Africa where he grew up and completed his education in economics and politics –

In other words, he knows of the developing world’s potential and he went all in to capture market share in this area of the world while the industry is still young.
