According to a reporter from Wall Street Journal, Apple is likely to start the production of iPhone’s in India by next couple of months. The production plant will be at Peenya industrial area near Bengaluru in partnership with Wistron.
Reports are that, by August the Taiwanese manufacturer Wiston Crop will start the production of iPhone 6 and 6s along with Apple’s new iPhone SE will take place in the same plant.
To reduce the prices, Apple has been seeking relaxation of taxes which in turn reduces the production cost but the issue has been stuck due to GST rollout among other issues.
Apple has finally made its way for the production plant. After Apple proposed the plan to Indian government, it,s said that government has not accepted most of the demands of iPhone maker, especially the tax waiver. How ever apple intent to start production as early as possible.

On declining to be named, a source close to PMO said, “Apple is closely working with [the] government to move forward with its India plans. We want Apple to manufacture in India. They are also very keen and will try to accommodate as much of their demands as possible, but they too appreciate and understand our limitations.”
Modi’s initiative of Made in India will only be successful only when the tax norms are relaxed paving way to larger economic reforms.
