Air India partners with IRCTC to make travel more comfortable
Latest move by Air India and Indian Railway is a big surprise to travelers. Air India has partnered with IRCTC to provide air travel to passenger traveling via Rajdhani express in a case where their ticket is not confirmed in IRCTC. While first class travelers will get free replacement, But 2nd and 3rd class passengers have to pay Additional Rs 2000 to get air tickets. This a rare move by governmental entities to offer innovative alternatives.
Modi government is facilitating high growth for public sector and government enterprises and they are clearly throwing good competition to private entities.
Earlier this year Air India turned profitable for the first time in a decade. Under the UPA government the growth is roaring and is a pretty good sign for economy.
Air India Chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani said, “Several state governments have asked Air India to look at launching virgin routes connecting different cities in their respective states. The details are being worked out and we hope to have this in place within a week.” Up until now, 16 state representatives have come forward for the deal and Air India is planning to add more planes to its fleet.
Air India is also planning to extend this to other trains if the partnership shows fruitful results.
These kind of moves will definitely send shivers to already battling private airlines like SpiceJet, Indigo, Air Asia etc as Air India will have advantage of additional seat filling.
