Grofers reduces staff by 10%


Grofers is an on-demand delivery service that connects consumers with local stores. It is a Gurgaon based startup. It is a local mobile e-commerce platform that is transforming the shopping experience for people. Grofers offer a wide assortment of groceries, fruits and vegetables, cosmetics, electronics, bakery items, flowers and much more. According to their websitemore than thusand people have joined Grofers in past six months. Also there have been about three million downloads on android and IOS.

Grofers is India’s largest and fastest hyper local delivery company which helps you order grocery, bakery, fruits & vegetables and other products that you need every day from your mobile phone. There are over 120,000 products spread across various categories listed above. Grofers currently operates in Agra, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, NCR, Nagpur, Pune, Surat and Vadodara. They try to make sure their inventory is always updated. In case an item you ordered is unavailable from the store you selected, they try to source it from a different store or suggest a replacement. One of the attractive policy of this on-demand startup is that there is no minimum order value. The mobile app also gives users facility to edit their order in the cart before check out.

This startup made headlines by announcing the news to fire 10% of its workforce. Earlier the grocery delivery app had cancelled job offers of 67 selected candidates. It again made a thump by promugating 10% of its workforce. It is however surprizing that they are laying off so many of the employees, despite huge success and coup in the market.

According to statement from Grofers, “we are downsizing some of the teams given the market environment and our revised growth productions.”

Grofers was founded by Albinder Dhindsa and Saurabh Kumar on December 27,  2013. The startup was started with an aim to shop in a hassle free and convenient manner. The company has a fleet of foot soldiers and tie ups with local merchants for delivery of goods to customers from shops around them. Grofers has raised $166.5 Million till date after 3 rounds of funding by Softbank, Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global.
