The big news: Indian startups have been getting a lot of celebrity attention lately, either in the form of investments from them or by celebrities starting their own startups. Likewise, the famous Indian actor Boman Irani has invested in a sports – based Indian startup called Rooter. This mobile app allows sports fans to interact by means of pre-match quizzes, chat forums, live match prediction games and post-match interactions. Fans can share their insights, predictions, analysis and opinions of the game so that like-minded sports fans around the world can become one!
How the investment will be used and views of the CEO: The new capital will be used to strengthen the technology team and create strategic partnerships with various sports platforms, teams, fan clubs and associations. “I am proud to be part of the world’s first platform that connects sports fans and engages them to discuss, predict, quiz and even meet offline during the world’s most exciting sporting events”, Boman Irani said on the investment. Rooter Sports Technologies Pvt. Ltd. was founded by sports enthusiasts Piyush (CEO) and Soham Sinha (CTO). “Rooter is based on the inherent need of sports fans to connect and interact with one another across the real and the digital worlds. This (investment) comes as a major shot in the arm for us, and encourages us to push on and use technology to make the sports consumption experience even better and more enjoyable,” said Piyush. Rooter currently covers sports events related to football, cricket and tennis.
Our take: India is a cricket – crazy country where we have millions of fans who love to exchange views and make predictions on cricket matches (Football also has growing number of fans in India). Rather than posting comments on a general social media platform like Facebook or Twitter, sports fans can use specialized mobile apps like Rooter for a lot of things. They can interact with each other, they can post their views on the match, they can have fun by making predictions on the game, they can make an analysis of all that which went wrong or right in the game and they can even make new friends with like – minded sports fans through the app. It is an all – in – one app that will be a bonanza for sports fans all over the world. More and more Indian actors should come forward to sponsor and advertise for innovative startups like these. Read more on Startups
