Lifestyle startup for women-POPxo has raised Series B funding of $2.7Million (Rs 18 Crore). Japan’s GREE Ventures participated in the funding round along with existing investors Kalaari Capital and IDG Ventures India. Earlier in November 2015, the startup raised $2 Million of Series A funding from IDG Ventures India, Kalaari Capital, 500 Startups.
The Delhi-Based startup was founded in March 2014 by fashionistas Priyanka Gill and Namrata Bostron. POPxo is India’s largest community for women. The startup mainly caters to young women in the age group of 18-34 across topics such as fashion, beauty, relationships, work, weddings, and lifestyle destinations.
When asked further about the deal, a source said that “Among women-centric media startups, POPxo is definitely the one gaining a large amount of traction from women in metros, as well as those in smaller towns. They will focus more on monetization through brand integration over subscriptions since the latter doesn’t work well in India but their target is to break even soon.”
POPxo has partnered with 150 International brands like Puma, Nike, Whisper, Tanishq, Motorola, TrulyMadly, Lakmé, Chumbak, TIGI BedHead, Wills Lifestyle, Caratlane, Westside, Vero Moda, Van Heusen and much more. The collaboration with higher brands will help to create higher levels of engagement and social media buzz they also utilise the network of influential bloggers, who have tied up with them.
POPxo had now focused on increasing writers that will improve the traffic of their website. They aim to post at least 500 articles per month. They currently have about 100 employees, working from the office in Delhi. The fresh funds will be used for improving product development for featuring news items in different formats.
